Great Fish Restaurant In Arnavutköy

Arnavutköy is known for it's fantastic fish restaurants, and this has to be one of, if not the best! The restaurant itself is very casual, with a true "seafood" restaurant feel. Dark stained wood paneling lines the walls, with fish netting and old pictures of Arnavutköy hanging from them. The fish, of course what you came here for, is excellent! Very fresh, with many different kinds to choose from. They also have some delicious salads here, definately get one with the fish. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive, but for the non-Turkish speaker, it might be a good idea to just have a look at the fish first to order, not much English is spoken here. Nevertheless, a great restaurant, highly recommended!

Best fish in town

"What a wonderful place, this one! the setting is very cosy, the service quite swift despite the crowds and the fish is astounding. I seldom have tasted better seafood in my life. The area around the restaurant is also lovely, with a small town ambience and lots of interesting building to be enjoyed. If you have a Turkish speaker with you it helps a lot, the staff isn't used to foreigners. A real gem..."

Don't Miss The Cheap Fresh Seafood

"Adem Baba is one of the most popular seafood restaurants in Istanbul. If you would like to eat cheap but also delicious seafood, you should visit Adem Baba. The fish are always so fresh because they catch, cook and serve them in the same day. You can try whatever you want, you will not be sorry. The restaurant is always full. Since they don't accept any reservation, sometimes you have to wait but it won't take too much time because the service is always very fast..."

Adem Baba

"...Having started as just a little boat serving fast food in Bebek, this place has become one of the most popular – if small – places around Bebek and Arnavutköy . They serve their own fish köftes, and only the freshest seasonal fish..."

Adem Baba
(Publisher's Choice of The Guide İstanbul)

My husband and I are big fans of seafood and go to a fish restaurant at least once a week preferably on Sunday. Of course we have our favorites, but from time to time, we like to experiment and try out different places. Adem Baba is now on our list of favorites!

In the last issue of The Guide İstanbul, we presented an article on the neigborhood of Ortaköy and Arnavutköy. In Arnavutköy, one of the best seafood restaurant is Adem Baba. This is not the first time we had heard about this long-standig restaurant; but finally, we decided to try it because we had been hearing rave reviews from our friends and family. we are glad we did and I wanted to share our experience with you.

First, Let me give you some information on Adem Baba. Beginning in 1992, it was a simple waterside eatery serving the public from a small boat in Bebek. In 1998, Adem Baba became a full-fledged restaurant when they opened in Arnavutköy. Today they have 2 locations, right next to each other and a separate location for their take out service.

Adem Baba is very simply decorated with wooden tables and chairs, is very clean and has no frills, but has very very good and quick service. Most importantly, the seeafood is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. However, Adem Baba does not serve liquor. On our first visit to Adem Baba, we had the opportunity to taste their fish soup, which is only served on Sundays. I can not begin to tell you how good it was and at only 5 YTL / serving! For our main course, we ordered grilled bonito and fried anchovy  accompanied with a salad. We topped off our meal with one order quince dessert and coffee. The total price of our meal was only 35 YTL (USD 25 / Euro 21)! On another visit, I ordered the grilled salmon which was cooked just right crusty on the outside and juicy and pink on the inside.

Finally, I would like to give you some general information; Adem Baba serves fish that is " in season only" and your waiter will inform you about the availability. During the month of december, prices of the fish entrees ranged in price from to 8 YTL to 40 YTL per portion. Besides the main course of fish, Adem Baba has fish soup every Sunday and other starters in include fish balls, fried calamari, stuffed mussels and salted bonito among others. The prices of starters 2YTL to 8YTL. Adem Baba offer 2 types of Salads as accompaniments to your meal: seasonal salad or shepherd's salad. You can opt to order them with, or without cheese and the prices are 3 and 4 YTL. Finally, their desserts are very good, including the standards of şekerpare ( small cookie shaped sweets drenched in syrup), helva (halva) and kabak tatlısı (slices of pumpkin drenched in syrup). The prices of the desserts are from 2YTL to 3YTL.

I higly recommend Adem Baba if you are looking to enjoy an excellent seafood meal. The restaurant is open daily from noon to 10:30pm. Their take out services is available Tuesday to Sunday

(The Guide İstanbul)

"...A consistently good seafood restaurant with a large, steady clientele. Adem Baba only serves fresh, in season fish prepared to perfection. Accompaniments include raw onions, large salads and lots of lemons..."
